My pet is Uni, short for Unicorn. Uni is a white tailed deer. We rescued Uni's mother, Madeleine, when she was abandoned as a baby and Uni was born about two years later. We found Uni and her brother Peppet in the garden, where Madeleine nust have put them knowing they would be safe.
Like her mother, Uni is a good friend of mine. She sleeps with her mom on a doggy bed on the front porch and in winter she stays out in her warm shed. Madeleine likes to come inside the house and eat goodies, but Uni prefers to eat her goodies on the front porch. Uni likes to eat grapes, cheese curls, cereal, apples, corn, bananas and whole wheat bread. She likes to play with empty grain sacks, chew on empty pop bottles and fight the garden hose. She takes the garden hose in her mouth and dances around spraying it up in the air and then fights it.
In the summer she liked to run through the sprinkler and splash through the duck pond. Uni has a twin brother Peppet, an older brother Bambi, and an older sister Honey Suckle Rose. She lives in the wild, but comes to visit every day. Her farm friends are ducks, goats, chickens, two dogs and a pony who all like to play with her. One chicken even likes to sit on her back when Uni is asleep, which is so cute. She has lost her spots now but below are her baby pictures. The one where she is laying on a pillow was taken the very first day we found her!
We live out in the country and Uni and her family are all safe because we asked all our neighbors not to hunt her mother Madeleine and her babies. They were so moved by Madeleine that they even started buying grain for her and her fawns, and even the people who hunted around us stopped hunting completely.
