Today's Pet of the Day
Trixi, Pixi and Dixi the Fancy Mice, the Pet of the Day
Name: Trixi, Pixi, Dixi
Age: One year, three months old
Gender: Female
Kind: Fancy Mice
Home: Illinois, USA

We adopted three adorable mice from the Humane Society on Dec. 9, 2016 ~ Trixi, Pixi and Dixi. We have always loved mice (and have been mice parents before) and it's a lot of fun setting up a safe cage full of little toys, wood chews, and yummy food. The little girls loved it immediately and played and snacked for hours!

Trixi, Pixi and Dixi have a great diet with Oxbow food and seed mixes. They have a choice to drink water from a bottle or bowl (they overwhelmingly prefer the bottle). They used to fight over the exercise wheel so we bought 3 wheels! Of course, they love climbing on all their toys but they have never tried to escape from their cozy cage. Even though they have great little houses and an igloo, they make elaborate nests out of paper almost every week and it's difficult to remove their hard work when their cage needs cleaning. When their cage is scrubbed weekly, they are moved to a big, safe play area with more toys!

These little ladies are very busy and talented interior decorators, too. Every time they re-enter their cleaned cage, they spend hours moving toys, lifting wood blocks, tearing paper for a nest and re-arranging their happy home! (They are just too cute!)

We have never been bitten by Trixi, Pixi or Dixi. They are sweet, precious little angels. We have a calm household and these little ladies aren't scared of us handling them. Trixi was the most trusting immediately and was easily hand fed. Pixi always follows Trixi's lead. (Trixi and Pixi are very close and love snuggling together.) Dixi was shy for weeks, then became bossy! It's so funny to lift the little igloo out of their cage and see all 3 ladies practically on top of each other sleeping! (You can actually feel their body heat coming out of the igloo!)

Mice have amazing senses, especially hearing and smelling. Anytime I silently slip treats into their cage, the girls immediately come out of their nest/house/igloo to find them! Our little girls never wake up crabby, no matter what time of the day/night!

Unfortunately, mice have short lives and our happy little trio have slowed down but they still enjoy their lives and we have adjusted their cage so they don't have to climb. Mice are brilliant, adorable, ingenious, entertaining and under-appreciated by the world. We will always be protectors and defenders of mice and all rodents. We encourage everyone to adopt pets (big or small) and save a life.

Besides these sweet little ladies, we have adopted many, many precious guinea pigs (cavies) from Humane Societies and people who were neglecting them. (We have never bred any animals.) Please check out our (non-profit) fun photo site: guineapigsrfun.net
