Our precious Rupert the Great was adopted from the Humane Society on Dec. 28, 2015. Rupert was labelled "un-adoptable" because he is a "senior" and had been at the Humane Society for weeks while all the younger pets were adopted first. While at the H.S., Rupert's cage was clean but bare (no food, water bottle, toys). It is very heartwarming to adopt a "senior" because, when you bring them home and put them in their new roomy cage full of fresh food, toys, treats, and a fun house to sleep in, they become very animated like youngsters - excited, playful, happy, inquisitive! They have a difficult time sleeping because they are too happy enjoying their new surroundings!
Rupert is a sweet, quiet boy who does not whistle. We always call him "our baby" because he loves playing with his toys and running around his cage again and again and again (and not just for treats), acting like a youngster. It was easy to see that Rupert had not been handled very much (by his previous human) because he was still timid about being picked up; however, once you pick him up, he melts in your arms, ready to snuggle! Rupert is amazingly tolerant when getting his nails cut and he has never bitten us!
Rupert likes many veggies but his favorite foods are green leaf lettuce, shredded carrots, celery leaves, hay. He also loves water (drinks about 6 oz daily) and his high-quality Oxbow dry food and Oxbow Timothy hay treats.
Rupert loves to move his cardboard house all around his cage (while he is in it) - and he looks like a turtle wearing a shell as he does this!
Rupert the Great is truly a Super Model! He is patient and photogenic when posing for all of our holiday portraits! (He has a cute little gray "beauty mark" on the right side of his lips!)
To sum up, Rupert the Great is just perfect and we couldn't love him more!!
We have adopted GPs for over 30 years from shelters (we are not breeders) and we feature their sweet, fun photos on our (non-profit) web site, www.guineapigsrfun.net : Our Motto is: "We've never met a Cavy we didn't like!" We hope all of our wonderful adopted "seniors" encourages everyone to visit their local shelters and adopt the "un-adoptable"!
