Introducing Cindy (top) and Puff. I got my first gerbil a short time ago and have fallen in love with them. They are tiny, about the size of the Parakeets. Gerbils are so much fun to watch. They climb up on things just to jump off.
Reading up on gerbils, they are social animals and should be acquired in (at least) pairs. Our local Pet Depot only had one gerbil at that time, so I got her. All of my other pets have friends and I didn't want her to be lonely. The articles cautioned about introducing a new gerbil, with the possibility they may fight. So far I've been lucky with bonding animals, so I decided to take the chance and get her some companions. It was back to Pet Depot. This time they had five gerbils. I chose two.
Cindy and Puff worked out perfectly. Cindy is darker and Puff has a little white patch on her head. When they came home, they were in a spare cage. I put my original gerbil, Sandy, with them. Everyone checked each other out, but there was no fighting. They stayed in that cage for several hours until I put them all in their permanent home.
Everyone seems to be happy and they make me smile!
