Our pet's name is Little Rascal, though we generally just call him Rascal for short. The thing that makes him special is that he is a good stress relief pet. He comes up to the opening like in this picture to receive his greens (Romaine, parsley, leaf lettuce and other good vitamin C vegetables. This is important because guinea pigs can't generate vitamin C.
We bought Rascal at a store the day after Thanksgiving. He is very active, and runs around his cageand loves to climb in his two-story condo. We thought when he lived at the store all he liked was guinea pig food! He now likes leaf and romaine lettuce and anything that's green! His favorite is parsley. He loves giving kisses! He is learning to be more verbal! He knows what his name is now, too!
The Abyssinian cavy (guinea pig) is one of the three original breeds recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association, (which later added an adjunct, The American Cavy Breeders Association.). The Abyssinian coat is defined by a symmetrical pattern of rosettes and ridges. The coat is to be crisp and harsh, so as to lend itself to clearly defined rosettes and ridges - which his sure does! You may think of it as a bad hair day, but it is just part of being a good Abyssinian, for Rascal!
