Houdini is a Fire-bellied newt, and is definitely the more curious and sociable of the pair we have, From the moment we first put Houdini in the habitat we made for them, we knew what to name him, he escaped and started climbing around on the outside of the cage. He likes to climb on us, though we are careful to not do it too often, and the oil on peoples' hands is not great for delicate newt skin.
While his brother Homer sits around, Houdini is socializing with the algae water in the tank. He is just 2 1/4 inches long and he has the most wonderful tank, it looks like a swampy marsh, as a proper newt home should. He loves his life and his family, and we love him.
