This is Bartleby Jones, also known as Bart. He's a Ceratophrys ornata, commonly known as the Argentine Horned Frog or the Pacman Frog due to their round shape and big mouths.
I met Bart at work. The company I work for gets all of their freight delivered to a small local pet store. The first time I stopped in, I saw him. He was the only Pacman in the store at the time. I thought he was pretty looking and he seemed to have a personality about him. Over the next few months, I made it a point to say hello as often as I could. I started studying the biology and care requirements of his species too. Other pacman frogs came and went but Bart always stood out to me.
Right around my birthday several months later, I was going through a rough patch emotionally. My mom sent me some birthday money and I figured maybe taking home that cute frog would help. It really did! Even though he isn't the most interactive of pets, I find him and his habits fascinating.
Bart eats crickets and hunts by burying himself in the substrate and letting the crickets come to him. He really likes it when I herd the crickets his way and he doesn't have to sit and wait. He also likes the occasional long soak in his water bowl.
I love my little Bart dude. There's something about him that drew me in. I've taken care of all sorts of frogs and I find frogs neat in general but Bart is truly special.
