My daughter and I found little Possum in a local pet store. We've never had a hamster before! But when the lady took him out of his cage and held him in her hand, he sat up and munched on a piece of hay, and we fell in love. Possum got his name because we thought he looked like a baby opossum. When we got home and got his habitat set up, we read up as much as possible about Teddy Bear Hamsters. He's nocturnal so he naps all day, but wakes up, eats and little and goes back to sleep. We play with him mainly at night so as not to disturb his daily rest.
Possum likes to eat special hamster pellets and hay, plus we give him carrots and lettuce. We've had him since the middle of May, so we have not had him that long. We're going to introduce him to other veggies and fruits and he tried a strawberry and liked it. His favorite pastime is running in his wheel! He'll do that for the longest time, then he runs through his tunnel, which is a paper towel roll. He also has a big wheel that he can use on the floor. He's very very fast! Possum is very sweet, loves to crawl up my arm and run around the sofa. He can't sit still, is always in motion. We love him a lot!
