Ganymede is a mismarked blaze rat, meaning that her two spots should be triangles that extend over her eyes. She's a very special rat. I went to a pet store to buy some bedding and when I entered the store I saw her. She was being abused and neglected and although I know better than to buy from a pet store, I couldn't just leave her there. Since she was treated so poorly as a pup she has some trust issues and is very skittish. Slowly but surely my other girls have been teaching her that the world is okay now and that she's safe.
It's been truly amazing and touching to watch how she's grown and how far she has come. When we first brought her home she was very fearful and refused to leave her little house for anything except food. Rats are very social creatures and recently she's even begun cuddling and grooming her sisters. Although she's not very cuddly and sweet to humans, she's an amazing pet and I know one day she'll get there. I'm so glad I was able to give her a much longer and happier life than she ever would have had at the store.
