Introducing Yawen and Mazin! They are husband and wife, it was an arranged marriage but they are happy with the outcome. They are called Kenyan Sand Boas. These two are actually pretty special as far as Kenyan Sand Boas go. They are called splashes.
Yawen is the snow splash and Mazin is what you call an anery splash. What makes a splash sand boa is the extra white they have usually on the lower parts of their bodies. It's hard to tell on Yawen where the splash begins because she is so light colored anyways but if you look closely you will find it. Mazin has a very big contrast with his colors because it's basically black against white.
Yawen and Mazin are only babies right now but in four years from they will get their honeymoon night (the day that I will put them together to breed). It only takes males one year to mature but it takes females three years to mature. I like to give my girls a little longer to mature and not rush things. It will be fun to see the babies and how much splash they will have on them and what colors they will be. Splashes are the rarest in the Kenyan Sand Boa hobby because as babies they are very weak. No one knows why. Yawen will probably give birth (that's right they don't lay eggs, they give live birth) to five to ten babies. I can only pray that they will be strong and survive.
Yawen means "cloud patterns" in Chinese. I wanted a name to have something to do with her unique pattern. Mazin means "storm clouds" in Arabic. I wanted his name to also have something to do with his coloring as well as something that would compliment a name with clouds somewhere in the meaning.
I got Yawen first when she was two months old. Then after Yawen came I decided to look for a husband for her and that's when I found Mazin who just so happened to be the same age. Mazin arrived at my house two weeks after Yawen. It's neat having two snakes that are the same age. Especially when I start to see a growth spurt in Yawen as she will grow larger than Mazin.
Both snakes came to me a bit on the squirmy side. You can't blame them though, because they are babies after all. I try to hold them three times a week to tame them and it's been working. They have both calmed down a lot. Mazin is calmer than Yawen so that must just be his nature. It's fun to watch their little personalities come out. I love them both and I am happy to add them to my well loved collection of fourteen snakes.
