Born March 4th 1995, Jimmy's father was a gorgeous Palomino Overo named Ice Sculpture and his mother an Appendix named Bonnie Gal. We think February -oops!- Jimmy, whose certified name is PHE Ice Skipper to honor his father Ice Sculpture, spent his youngest years as a gymkhana/attempted cow horse. After while he was sold to be a lesson horse where he spent many years helping thousands learn to ride. Jimmy was also treasured as a gentle horse and would be used for the therapy sessions as well. He worked helping children and adults with mental or physical disabilities ride. He has carried the blind, the deaf, the paralyzed, anyone who needed a hand, or hoof. He was happy to help.
I first met him when I was 12 years old, so quite some time ago. I fell in love and knew he was the horse I needed. I spent eight years with him, improving my riding and and becoming a riding instructor myself until one day I finally had the money to buy him. Through those eight years I went through major depression with personal issues, and Jimmy was there to help. I remember crying my heart out and him nuzzling my arms. Then I'd climbed onto his back still sniffling and he slowly walked the arena, patient as could be until I stopped. Memories of sitting on his back as he ran, with my arms stretched out like a bird and feeling the wind, or riding him in competitions and how serious he was to win are ones I treasure.
I know some horses are your typical horse, "Give me hay and I'm happy." Then there are the ones like Jimmy. It has almost been a year now that I have owned him and I've never been happier. He hasn't retired from lessons just yet. I still let the program use him lightly on certain days, mainly because he loves his job and just isn't slowing down one bit. He refuses to acknowledge his age and kicks his heels up to play. For most of his off time, which is Sunday to Wednesday, Jimmy is happily munching at his hay and playing with his neighbor pony named Sam or biting at his opposite neighbor Sugar, the grumpy mare who we're pretty sure is crushing on him. Or he may be galloping/rolling in the arena. I love my horse and will care for him and definitely keep giving him the love he deserves.
