Wakita the Columbian Boa, the Pet of the Day
Name: Wakita
Age: Two Years Old
Gender: Female
Kind: Colombian Boa
Home: Shelby Township, Michigan, USA

When people say that snakes don't feel any love towards their owners, or crave for affection, I can never disagree more. Wakita is a Boa who is extremely friendly and social, and enjoys the attention I give her. People find me insane when I kiss her on the snout, but that is because I love her and the crazy thing is ... she loves it! How I know? When I don't give her any snout kisses, she'll stretch her head up to my mouth and touch her snout to my lips, wanting a kiss. Now that's a snake who loves attention.

She not only loves me, however, but she is very curious of visitors as well and anyone who I interact with. Every time she meets someone new, she is always curious of that person and will try to stretch out to the new stranger just to check them out, and if you let her, she will try to climb onto you. I've had her touch nose to snout with a few friends of mine, (who let her, with my permission) and even climbed onto people, but her signature thing is to go up to your face and just stare at you, face to face. If she likes what she sees, she'll try and find a way to climb onto you, if not, she just pulls back and stays wrapped around me. Never have I ever loved a serpent so much in my life and Wakita is going to be apart of it for as long as she lives.

Snakes like her kinda grow forever until they die and it's best to accomodate the size she'd grow instead of forcing her to stay in a small cage. Besides, what really judges how fast and big she'll grow is how much you feed her. However, with the normal diet and cage size she is at ... I am looking at a 9-foot-long snake in the future!

She has already started as a educational snake for kids, as I work at a Nature Center, and not long ago, I brought her to our Exotic Pets Program we hold every year in the Spring and she was such a good girl! She allowed people to pet her, and kids to see her and it was awesome to see that she was curious about everyone! She is on the way of being a excellent teacher to kids in my town!
