Alice is my first hamster. As a kid I grew up with the family looking after male hamsters but I never paid them any attention and was put off getting one till I saw Alice by herself in a pet shop. I couldn't leave her there! I named her Alice because my favorite book is Alice in Wonderland and it just seemed to suit her sweet nature.
At first Alice was skittish but after a little bit of work and bonding she loves nothing more than sitting in my hand getting a cuddle or rolling around in her ball. She even sits at the door of her cage eating fruit that I hand to her while I sit with her and enjoy the rest of what I didn't give her.
I knew hamsters liked fruit and vegetables but I wasn't sure what I could and couldn't feed her. After some research I found that hamsters typically like carrots, pears, apples and cucumber. We had plenty of fruit in the house so I gave her some pear which she loved and found out that she doesn't like apples (she won't even chew her apple-shaped chew toy!)
I also have two large dogs that when Alice is in her ball she runs up to them to get them to move out her way. Another odd thing about her is that she knows where the door to her cage is and will rattle it until I pick her up and put her in her ball for a run. I love her.
