My American Mustang horse's name is Red Raindrops. I call her Raindrops. But I really like saying Reeeed Raindrops (in the tone of the Red Robin restaurant commercial)! She is 6 years old. She is originally from Nevada where she ran free until I adopted her July of 2011. It takes a year to get her title from the Bureau of Land Management and I was so glad when that year was up! She has changed my life tremendously as I have changed hers. She is my first horse training experience. She has done very well with time I've been able to work with her - that November she went to Equine Affaire in Massachusetts after only having her for only 4 months.
When I first started working with her she did not know what apples or carrots were, but now I can not eat either of them without giving her some. She has turned into a treat piggie. I share my snacks with her, but not my lunch - which she tried to get my sandwich from me the other day!
She loves to be scratched on her withers and behind her ears. At times she will pester me while I am cleaning her pen and stall. She comes up to me and moves her head over mine trying to get me to scratch her sometimes knocking my hat off or nibbling on my hair. When I do scratch her, she makes the funniest faces and tries to "groom" me, but I've gotta watch those teeth!
I run around the outside of her pen and that gets her running inside for some exercise and play/fun time. Afterwards, she comes over to the fence and reaches her head through licking my arms and hands and then resting her head on my shoulder for some loving pats. She seems so docile yet at times you can see the "wild horse" in her. They say you don't choose the Mustang, the Mustang chooses you! I'm so glad she chose me!
