My name is Splinter. While I was at the pet store I lived in a bin, and someone opened the cage while I was climbing, causing a spine injury. When mum first got me I was struggling, unable to use my back legs. Mum had to give me special care; no wheel, or toys, just a hammock, food and water. She could see I had a fierce will to live, and put me in with my two new sisters, Anushka and Smokey Peach. Both of my sisters groom me constantly, as I cannot groom myself as well as I used to. Mum always thinks I smell lovely after my sisters fuss over me all the time.
I was named Splinter after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Rat teacher, as I am a fighter and at first mum thought I was a boy! I have grown in leaps and bounds. At first I dragged myself around with my front paws alone, now I have nearly full use of my one hind leg. Mum bought us a special wheel that I cannot hurt myself on, and mum caught me trying to run on it. I am also fast enough now to run if I don't feel like getting caught or held. I love birdseed, but most of all pumpkin seeds. Despite the pain I have been in a few times I am sweet as honey and have never been mean or nasty or bit. I also put up with lots of kisses and love. Mum loves me dearly, and so do my sisters. I look like I am gonna live a long full life despite my injuries. I am often on my side or back, unlike most mice who like being on their front. So don't mind my pictures, I am healthy and happy.
The pet store people know mum loves to give mice a second chance, especially injured ones. Thus, the pet store gave me to her as a gift, rather than for money. And life has been looking up for me since that moment!
