Maximilian or "Max" for short is an eight-year-old Pacific parrotlet. We got him from a breeder when he was six weeks old. He lives in Nashville.
Aside from being a sweet and friendly bird, Max is exceptionally smart. Sometimes too smart. When he was a year old,
he was outside with us in a travel cage, and he figured out how to open the door. Max flew from tree to tree, having the time of his life, until he was lured
back down to Earth by the sound of a noisy bird treat can being shaken. (We stopped using that cage for Max.)
Although parrotlets are capable of speech, Max has never been taught how to talk. He lives in a house with two children, so there are already enough talkers in his household, thank you very much. We all love him!
