This
girl has the honor of being the matriarch of my mouse colony. I got her
in May 2013 and she has been with me ever since. I named her for her curly
whiskers, and the fact she is a longhaired angora. Even alpha mouse leaves
her be. She never used to be a cuddly mouse, she hated being caught,
especially during out of cage time. But now that she has reached an age that
would be similar to 70 or 80 human years, she doesn't mind me touching her a
bit. She mostly sleeps these days, though she is still active enough to go on
free run during cage cleaning. She also used to give my hands a wide berth
but nowadays she waddles beside my arm as if the warmth comforts her.
Curly is past being young and aggressive, she is passive, so no one gets
angry with her. She might not be in charge, but her loving cage mates treat
her special. She likes honey graham cookies, peanuts and pumpkin seeds. She
doesn't go so much for birdseed like the other girls. But she is still strong
and well enough to steal treats from younger, faster mice. They don't seem to
mind with her, they allow it. So older but still feisty. Most mice only live
a year to a year and a half, I got her as a very young adult, probably she
was born February of that year. She has beaten wild mice by a long chalk;
three to four months in wild life expectancy. So cheers to Curly, celebrating
her second birthday!
The second picure is recent, and she is still looking good.
