This is sad, but true story, though it has a happy ending.Ciumak
is a 3-year-old savannah monitor - which is a big, African lizard. Now
he measures almost a meter(3 feet) long. When he was younger, he lived with
irresponsible people. His cage was poorly built - and the source of heat
was a hot bulb set alittle too low. The poor thing was burned badly.
Fortunately, my friend found him and bought him to get him away from
them. Ciumak was in very poor condition, and was dying. The treatment to
save him was long and costly, but effective - Ciumak survived. Now he
only has scars on his back and sides. (It's white in the picture, the
wound is still not healed completely). Then my friend gave him to me.
After several weeks, suddenly it
appeared that Ciumak had cancer in his jaw. He had to have an operation.
Besides this, he had no documents, and we could have lost custody of
him, but managed to get new documents, a birth certificate and CTTES. It
seemed his life and happiness were still at risk.
Now Ciumak is healthy and safe. He
weighs almost 4 kg, which is much better! He loves all people, loves to
get caressed, and will even gently take food from your hand. It cost a
lot - of money, time and emotion to get him to this point. But I do not
regret anything, I'm happy that I got him. He captures the feeling of
all.
