"We've got a male Abyssinian, he is all black but with white paws and a white nose." The moment I heard this, I knew this guinea pig was the one. We drove to the pet store and immediately fell in love with him. He was the cutest little thing we ever saw. He was a black fuzzy ball of hair. It didn't take long to decide that he was coming home with us. After a few days of settling down, we chose a name for him: Jack.
At home Jack transformed in a sweet, high energetic and sometimes crazy guinea pig. But one thing started to change when he got home: his hair began to grow. It became long and silky. The owner of the pet store told us he was an Abyssinian, but after a few moths he turned out to be a Peruvian! We should have known because his hair was so soft for an Abyssinian. While we think a long haired guinea pig is beautiful, Jack seemed to think otherwise. Since his hair started to grow, he always kept a love-hate relationship with it. Sometime you could see him looking at his hair like "what is this?" Then Jack had a dilemma: he doesn't like to have his hair brushed but also doesn't like to have a haircut. To make it even worse, our other guinea pig teases him with it, by pulling at it. So we now give him a really short haircut every two months, so he doesn't need grooming regularly.
Jack has now been with us for a few years and we can't think about a life without him. Some days it looks like he is filled with electricity, because if you pet him, he jumps high in the air and runs around in his cage. And if you manage to pet him, he starts to kick. Jack can kick so hard that he got the nickname Jackie Chan. He once kicked the brush out of our hands. My sister and I don't mind this and laugh about it, because we know this is Jack. I always said Jack is a model. He looks absolutely adorable on every photo.
