Banana
is the second youngest of our four lovebirds (Agapornis roseicollis)
that hatched this spring. Banana's yellow plumage came as a huge surprise
since her parents are wild-type (green) and violet white-faced blue! I hand
fed her so she is not afraid of being around people. She loves to snuggle and
perch on my shoulder. When she gets bored, she nibbles my fingers. Banana is
a very expressive bird and some of her poses are just adorable. She shares a
cage with her sibling, Grape.
Banana is very peaceful and soft-spoken, I have never seen her get angry for
any reason. She is very persistent though. She is drawn to my shoulder like a
magnet and will always try to climb back up if I lift her away. She is
affectionate to everyone and loves to perch on all shoulders! She is a fluffy
ball of love that will perch on my shoulder for long periods of time. I have
not taught her any tricks yet, but she is 'potty trained'.
Banana does in fact eat bananas! She tends to be shy about fresh foods but is
overcome by curiosity very quickly. She also has another sister named Apple
(green wild-type plumage, go figure...) although they don't share a cage, and
her mom is named Strawberry. Quite the fruit family!
