Their
names are Roket and Petal and they are smooth guinea pigs. They like
beans, roaming the garden and starring in their very own films! They are real
characters, Petal is very chatty and has a lot to say for herself and Roket is
very curious and adventurous. I adopted them from someone who had to move and
couldn't take them with them and fell in love with them straight away.
The white and grey one is Petal and the ginger one is Roket. They live in a
very comfortable suburban house in London and enjoy spending lots of time in
the garden, even when it rains, as you can see from the photo. They are very
curious but tame so when I am in the garden with them they are just under a
big golf umbrella with a shade canopy and a house to hide in. When we sit in
the garden in the summer evenings they hear our voices and as dusk falls they
like to go exploring around the whole garden.
Petal will often lead the expeditions from umbrella to other side of the
garden and Roket will then squeak and follow her and then after a bit of
grass eating they will run back to their house under the umbrella in lighting
speed, it's very funny to watch as both back legs leave the ground.
When they're inside they are very vocal and will squeak for green beans and
peppers, Petal will squeak from the comfort of her house and only come out
when the beans arrive, but Roket does have the good manners to squeak in view
and then wait for beans. I always hide their beans under lots of hay and on
top of their toys so they really rummage around and get their whole bodies
stuck in to find the beans. They will also stand on top of their toy log when
they want extra vegetables as you enter the room and Roket will go on hind
legs in anticipation of the coming food.
Petal is more tame than Roket but Roket loves it when you scratch her behind
the ears and her eyes start to close and you can see her going into a sleepy
relaxed state. Petal likes to be stroked under her chin and is more chatty
than Roket, whenever you pick her up she's always makes little noises like
she's saying "so where are we off to today?" In the garden Petal will lie
down and sniff the air and in all honestly could be mistaken for a dog with
her behaviour!
