This
is Bleck. He is number three out of my six Kenyan Sand Boas. He is not just a
number though he happens to be one of my favorites. Bleck is called a Dodoma.
Dodoma is a type of morph (coloring or patterning). His spots are more
defined than a regular Sand Boa. When it came to naming him I wanted it to
have a meaning that had to do with his spots. So I found the name Bleck and
it means "freckled one" in Irish.
Bleck is a very friendly and easy going fellow. Except he did try to bite me
once but I am fairly certain he learned his lesson. I put my hand in his cage
to take him out but he must have thought I was a mouse (this was only my
second time taking him out of the cage since I bought him so he was not used
to me). He struck out to bite me but I moved my hand and instead of getting a
hold of me he got a mouthful of bedding instead. It took me ten minutes with a
pair of tweezers to dig it all out of his mouth. He never did that again!
Sand Boas make great beginner pets as they are friendly, easy to care for,
and don't get too big. They are also pretty to look at and have cute faces. I
think it looks like they are always smiling. You will also notice that their
eyes are on the top of their head instead of the side like most snakes. This
is because they spend all their time underground with just their head poked
out to look for prey. Bleck is a good snake, and an interesting, fun pet! He
is easy to handle, and I think his handsome spots make him stand out, even
from other Sand Boas!
