Peatree, the Pet of the Day
Name: Peatree
Age: Six years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Pineapple Green Cheek Conure
Home: Florida, USA

Back when I only owned two budgies, I decided that I wanted to own a bigger bird. So my parents said that I could get a conure. I started searching through all the bird ads on Craigslist and Petfinder. One day, when I checked Craigslist for probably the 10th time that day, I saw an ad for a Pineapple Green Cheek Conure. So I clicked on it, and saw the beautiful bird. I had my mom email the woman that was selling her, and they chatted back and forth for awhile (with me reading over my mom's shoulder). Finally, they came to an agreement, and it was decided that the little conure would be mine! I was over the moon.

Fast forward to Wednesday, December 22nd 2010. After my mom had come home from work, her and my dad left to pick up the new bird. I was left at home with my aunt, and could hardly wait to meet my new birdie. About two hours later, my parents arrived home and walked into the house with a small cardboard box in their hands. I quickly took the box, and went off to my room, followed by my mother and sister. I opened the box, and looked in at the little bird. It was love at first sight. Her name was Peatree, and she was just the cutest little thing. My dad brought her cage in, and it shocked me a little. Her cage was a good size, but in it, was one toy, some baby links, a cuttle bone, and two skinny dowel perches. I put her in her cage, and watched her try and perch on the dowels. I was horrified by how they rocked back and forth as she perched on them. So I promptly went and stole one of the budgies branch perches, and stuck it in her cage. I got her more toys later that week.

Peatree was scared for a while. She liked to sit on my shoulder, but she didn't like to step up unless she fell on the floor. But I worked with her, and we soon became good friends. Today, Peatree and I are inseparable. We are so bonded. She doesn't like other people, and will bite them if they ask her to step up!

Peatree likes to go places with me. I take her to the craft store, pet store, dollar store ... we go to the park and out for ice cream. Her favorite flavor is vanilla/strawberry swirl! LOL! People are always shocked to see a bird, and always ask me if she is real, and then if she can talk. They always want to hold her too, but I don't allow them to.

Peatree says a few things. She can say her name, mommy, cookie, pretty bird, and no. I've also heard her mumble other things. She can make kissy noises, and laugh. Her laugh is so cute!

She also loves to dance. She will dance to almost anything, but her favorite song is "Elmo's World." I also have a special song for her, "Go Peatree!" She is a good girl, and I love her to pieces!
