We
got our first goat, Blue Jeans, last year in February. My daughter
begged us for a couple years to let her show in 4H, and we finally gave
in. A friend of ours had this goat she couldn't get rid of so we went to
look at her. It was love at first sight, and we made visits for the first
month then we brought her home. The first night was awful - being new to
goats we didn't know they needed a companion! So the very next day we got
Pepper, this handsome boy. He was born December 1st 2012. They quickly
became family members to us.
In the fall they bred, and in December 2013 it got really cold -30° wind
chill so we decided it would be best to bring them in. The kids were so
excited, playing with them all the time. On February 1st 2014, Blue Jeans
kidded a single buckling boy - so Pepper became a proud Daddy! That was
that an experience I wasn't ready for. But the baby stole our hearts. He's
so sweet sometimes I think he thinks he's a lap dog. Three weeks ago it
finally got warm enough where I felt safe enough to return all the goats
back to the barn to stay. It's sad but I miss them running around bahhing
in the house, they will always have a special place in our hearts, obviously!
Pepper is very friendly. He doesn't get to go to shows, he is just a
companion. We castrated him a few months ago because we didn't want to
breed anymore, so now he is a wether. He loves to play in the creek and
he'll do just about anything for a treat! I work at a nursing home he gets
to come to my work and visit the residents. They love having Pepper come
in. They had a fall festival last year where he was apart of our petting
zoo. He just loves all the attention!
