Chula
is our (approximately) twenty-year-old Umbrella Cockatoo. She came to our
family as a rescue. When I worked at an animal hospital in Indiana,
she was a dear client of ours. She would come to visit us every few
months for grooming, and we developed a strong bond. Unfortunately,
her owner could no longer keep her due to starting a new job and asked
if I would adopt her. I couldn't say no, so in January 2012, she joined our family.
Chula came to us with a feather picking problem - this is a condition
where they pull out and mutilate their own feathers. She has visited
her vet and is in good health. We are working with her and her feather
picking is getting better. She gets daily baths, sometimes including
aloe vera to help condition her skin, and loves her daily treat of
coconut oil and fruit, especially mango and cherries.
Chula has a very distinct personality! She will laugh when you laugh,
dance and sing along when she likes the song that's playing on the
radio, will cuddle up under a blanket with you and take a nap, and
loves just about anyone who will give her loves. She loves her neck
"scritches" and when we pet her under her wings. Her favorite phrases
to say are "hello bird" or "hi". She shares her home with her mommmy
(Jess), her daddy (Derek), her feline friend (Chance) and her li'l
green parrot buddy (Midori - Black Capped Conure).
Chula is very special to us and we look forward to sharing the rest of
her life with her!
