Four
years ago, my son wanted his own pet, and after a long talk with my
boyfriend, we agreed on a bunny. We chose this little cute ball of greyish
fluff, and lovingly named her Princess Fiona, because my son is a big
Shrek fan. I usually just call her Fio though. We were all excited about
her, but it got ruined as soon as she came home with us. She was
aggressive beyond belief, bit everyone who came near her, and that without
us doing anything else than feeding and petting her. When we took her out
for some playing and jumping, she peed and poo'd all over the place, and
the smell was horrible.
To find out why she reacted to us the way she did, we took her to the vet
every three months. After a year of that not helping a single bit, I decided
to just give up the whole thing, and let her do whatever she wanted. My
son had long lost interest in this furious thing, and my boyfriend always
joked about eating her. After another year, where I was the only one
taking care of her, even though she kept biting, and that until I started
bleeding very bad, we went on a two day trip to Copenhagen, where Fio was
alone at home, because we had no one to take her (who didn't have a dog or cat already).
Even though she was only alone for one night, the look on her face when we
came home was pure loneliness, and she actually seemed happy to see us
again. My heart broke, and even though my boyfriend wasn't happy about it,
I decided to get her a friend, it's not like the cage wasn't big enough to
house two bunnies. I chose a little light brown girl sitting all alone in
the pet shop, where people kept petting her, even though it was forbidden
to touch the animals. She didn't seem to mind any of that though, so maybe
she was just calm enough to put up with our furious girl at home.
I named the little new one Frida, and let her stay in Fio's cage alone for
about an hour to get used to it, then put in Fio. I was afraid of her
biting and scratching the new one, maybe even wanting to kill her, so I
was ready to take her out and get a second cage asap, but... nothing of
that sort happened. Fio just sniffed all over Frida, and then looked at me
as if she wanted to ask "What am I supposed to do with this thing?" The
little brown Frida, who had been all alone up until now, had no problem
with cuddling up against Fio, who just seemed to ignore her for a few
days. Frida is very lovable and affectionate, and has the biggest amount
of patience I have ever seen in an animal this small, plus, she never ever
bites anyone. This was exactly what Fio needed, and after half a year,
they were the best buddies, and Fio even started cleaning Frida, as well
as cuddling with her.
Two years have passed since then, and Fio is now a charming darling, never
bites any of us, doesn't pee all over the floor when out for a jump, and
is always ready for a good cuddle. She sometimes jumps over the opening of
the cage to greet me when I enter the room, with her ears all up, ready
for some love. My son loves to feed her, talk to her, and scratch her
behind the ears, all without getting bit now. Even my boyfriend started
talking with her now and then. I couldn't be happier with my duo, even
though they are still like night and day. To see Fio being happy with
Frida, who undoubtedly loves her unconditionally, makes me happy as well.
That was the story of Princess Fiona, the furious cuddlehead who likes to
play with empty toilet paper rolls and boxes :).
