Fio, the Pet of the Day
Name: Fio
Age: Six years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Lionhead rabbit
Home: Fredericia, Denmark

This is Fio. She is the oldest of my two bunnies, turning six years on the 15th of June. She is the mother of my other bunny Lille. Fio loves all kind of food, so she is very easy to train to do tricks. She can "dance" standing on her back feet, and walk a couple of steps too that way. She also uses a litterbox when she is out. She's like a little dog. She binkys and runs around on the carpet, throws herself on her back, rolling. It is so cute.

But Fio is also a little troublemaker. She loves chewing on everything, so I have to be careful not to leave shoes, bags, clothes and wires around where she can get to them. She once ate a whole orchid when I wasn't home and chewed the cable to my tv. I wondered for days why my tv didn't work. Well, Fio was the reason why. The latest thing she did was chewing on a new pair of Vans I got for the summer. That was my own fault though, I know she can't resist biting shoes.

But I love her, I really, really love her. She has been there with me through hard and sad times, as well as the fun and great times. She has given me Lille, my little baby who never will grow up, even though Lille will be five in October, she gives me kisses on my skin and loves to cuddle, she gives me smiles and laughter every day. She will come to me when I call her, and sit in my lap to be petted. She is just the most wonderfull friend I have.

I take very good care that none of my pets are overweight or not getting the suitable food that they need, so I make sure they get three to five different kinds of greens a day, one of them some kind of cabbage so they get vitamin A, lots of hay, things to bite and chew on to keep their teeth worn down, and just a tablespoon of pellets a day. Did you know rabbits have 17,000 tastebuds in their small mouth and humans only 10,000? I was surprised. So I think it is important to stimulate them with different kinds of flavor and smells from fruits, herbs and vegetables. Fio enjoys finding hidden treats around the livingroom, it's a fun game for both Fio and me.
