Poof
is a Chinese Silkie chicken. You can easily see why I called her
"Poof." I wanted some backyard chickens for eggs, so I also got a New
Hampshire Red named Molly. The joke is that Molly pays rent and Poof is
just cute, because Silkies are not great layers. But Poof is a great
little companion. She has a little harness and goes on errands with me,
and loves to meet people. She is just as soft as she looks, and loves to
cuddle. I think Silkies would be a great pet for bird lovers who want
something a little different. She has some great facial expressions as
well. Her nickname is Lady Poofington because sometimes she reminds me of
a very grumpy old lady. I love her very much!
Most people, when they see me out with her, say "Bunny!" or "Puppy!" Then
she turns her head and they say "CHICKEN?!" Her eggs are about half the
size of a regular hen egg, very smooth, and cream-coloured. Very cute! She
must have heard me talking because she laid six in the past few days. I
guess she doesn't like people thinking she is purely a lady of leisure.
She is a very dear girl, and loves to go visiting. She is a rescue, and
when I got her she was nothing but bones. She is much happier now, and she
and Molly are best friends. She is also making friends with and playing
big sister to my Australorp chick Dweezil, too!
