Hi,
my name is Roy, wishing everyone a Happy and Safe 4th of July!
A few weeks ago, Mom was watching the local news on TV. They have a
segment called "Paws for the Cause". They show pets from local
shelters that can be adopted. It's mostly dogs and cats. This time it
was my brother and I. It was too late for her to get us that evening,
so she got up early on a rainy Saturday to adopt us. It's first come,
first serve, so she had to hurry.
The Greater Huntsville Humane Society makes sure all pets are "fixed"
before they can be adopted. Ray was fine, but I (I'm the brown boy)
had an infection. The Humane Society said they would make an
appointment with the vet they used, but Mom decided to take us to her
exotic vet who specializes in birds, bunnies and guinea pigs. Dr.
Moore at the Cat and Bird Hospital cleared up my infection and Mom
continued to give us both antibiotics for several days to make sure we were better.
Next, Mom tried to bond us with her other neutered piggie, Jerry. At
first things went fine, we were all eating together in the bath tub
(neutral territory). Then Jerry got very aggressive, so she decided
that no one needs to live in fear of being attacked. Ray and I are
happy together, and Jerry seems to be happy by himself.
We enjoy the summer because there is always plenty of clover and grass
from the yard along with kale and collard greens from the store. Mom
loves it when we squeak after we hear her coming. We know there will
be good things to eat. Other than that, we really don't know any
tricks, except how to be cute!
There are plenty of other kinds of pets at shelters. Mom saw rabbits
and birds. We are glad she wanted to adopt. The shelter was willing to
separate us, so we were also glad Mom wanted us both. She says
everyone needs a friend. Well, everbody but Jerry, I guess!
Love, Roy
