Hi,
my name is Jack. My present owners didn't give me that name; I came with
it. I had a nice home before I came to live with the Kays. My previous owner
took very good care of me, but she was unable to give me all the attention a
young, active donkey required. She was kind enough to give me to my present
owners, who not only take good care of me, but they also take me places.
I have a real purpose in my community that I take very seriously, well sort
of. I am a trick- trained gelding donkey who goes to nursing homes, assisted
living facilities, Sunday schools, daycare centers, etc. I do tricks and
everyone claps. After the performance, I go from resident to resident to get
petted. I like that because it's all about me.
This is my trailer, don't worry, they don't drag me behind; they load me up
before we go! This is a ministry. Our mission is to tell those we encounter
about Jesus and His saving grace. I do a little performance showing off my
tricks as well as my lovely personality.
Aside from my nursing home ministry, I go to local parades. I can hear all
the kids yelling, "Hi, Jack" or "there's Jack" from the crowd. Last
Christmas, I rang the bell for the Salvation Army. I go on home visits for
elderly people, too. I especially enjoy visiting them on their birthdays! So
far, no one has been polite enough to offer me some cake and ice cream.
Usually, the children of the birthday person set it up, so they are at the
house with their cameras ready to take pictures. There is nothing as special
as having a donkey knock on one's door wearing a birthday hat! Sometimes I
wear a nurse's cap if the person is a shut in and needs home health care. I'm
very versatile.
We do "donkey school" every day that the weather permits. This means more
attention for me. I get carrot for each successful trick. As you can see form
the pictures, of course I bowl!
In September we had a family vacation. That means my pasturemates, Dolly, a
gaited mule and Jezabel, also a gaited mule, and I went with mom and dad to
Springfield, Missouri to Donkey and Mule Days. We had a great time. Little kids just
loved me. I gave them rides and they petted me and gave me kisses. It was wonderful.
Now, I have a problem. I have Facebook competition, namely Amos, the Wonder
Horse. Ugh. My competition has 2,473 "likes". I have 178. It is very apparent
as to what the reason is. Amos is a stub-earred steed, whereas I have long
luxurious ears, so that's not it. BUT, I have a broom tail, and a mane and
forelock that stands straight up. No matter what hair products I use, my mane
will not lay down. I would like to buy hairpieces to cover this flaw. I know
I would far surpass Amos in the number of "likes" I get. One of my 178 fans
wrote me a very nice message saying that she likes me just the way I am,
which really made me feel good, but there's still the matter of all the
"likes" that Amos gets. My owners think it would better serve me to spend
some time on the treadmill. hmpfff.
I've heard my mom say that I have been a wonderful blessing for her
retirement years. We enjoy every minute (well, almost every minute) we spend
together. When I was young, I never dreamed that I would someday have a
little, chubby donkey to bring me such joy! And Merry Christmas! A donkey
played an important part in the Christmas story, so I like this day, too!
Love, Jack, the Bible Donkey

Jack's mom says I thank God for my husband, because without him we could not
do all this. He is my assistant, my trailer driver, my heavy prop loader, my
poop scooper, and my greatest fan. Again, I am truly blessed.
Thank you, Jack the Bible donkey, for making us laugh daily and giving us the
joy we get in making little kids laugh, for bringing a smile to elderly
nursing home residents' faces, and brightening the day of housebound people
with a special visit that only you can make.
