This
is my boy Zuri, his name is Swahili meaning handsome. A few times a day
he will stand on his hind legs, stretch his neck and shake furiously like a
wet dog. The first time he did it, I had no idea what he was doing, but then
I found out other peoples' chinchillas do it, too! It is so funny!
I have to block him on one level of his cage to clean or change his fleece. I
have to trick him because he's so fast and sneaky!! He is so ornery he will
destroy his cage minutes after I clean it. Yet as soon as I open the cage
door he leaps on my shoulder and sits there for 30 minutes, grooming my hair
or nuzzling my cheek as if to say, "I do love you mom!" And I love him.
