Sparx, the Pet of the Day
Name: Sparx
Age: Three months old
Gender: Female
Kind: Bearded Dragon
Home: Winslow, Arizona, USA

Sparx is my baby Bearded Dragon. She has the biggest personality, and loves to go on walks (On my shoulder of course). She goes crazy for her salad every morning. My favorite thing though, is that she will tunnel into my shirt, or blanket when I am watching tv and will take a nap with me. She is very special to my heart, and every day I grow more and more attached to her. What's funny is that she recognizes me, if a stranger walks up to her she will be cautious and not walk towards them. When it is me going up to her cage she immediately comes up and starts scratching at the front of the cage.

As long as I am with her, she loves attention from people of all ages! Children are actually her favorite, because any time they meet her they are very gentle with her and very careful. She eats salad, which is made from high calcium leaves such as collards, and she loves having chopped up carrots as treats! Her other favorite treats are superworms, though they are very high in fat and only fed on occasion.

Until she is an adult, 75% of her diet is crickets and roaches, which are dusted with a calcium powder. Because her diet in the wild would consist of high calcium cacti and bugs, she needs supplements. She also needs her cage to be very hot, around 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 C)! She has to have a special bulb called a UVB bulb as well, to help her absorb the calcium from her food to put in her bones. She loves to lick her environment, so she cannot live on sand or woodchips and has to have a solid bottom to her tank. If she licks up any sand or something she cannot digest, she will get very sick. She also needs a bath at least daily, because it keeps her skin nice and healthy and allows her to drink if she needs to. I am very happy to have her in my home, and I plan to keep her for her entire life, which could end up being ten years or more.
