Loki
doesn't like up to his name one bit, he isn't very mischievous, he is
more reserved and quiet but nevertheless is a very loving guinea pig, he
especially likes to go outside onto the grass, if you leave the door open he
likes to explore the garden at high speed. He is very easy to handle and
loves his head being stroked. One time he escaped from his hutch and was free
with three female guinea pigs, luckily being the gentleman that he is, none
of them turned out to be pregnant.
Loki has been recovering from a condition called Broken Back. It's a fungal
problem that sticks to a specific area - the back. With plenty of fungal
dips, and with him being a good boy, his hair has almost grown back, as you
can see on the photo. It is is nowhere near as drastic as the term at first
implies. It describes a loss of coat in the middle to lower part of the back
of guinea pigs and is quite a common phenomenon. It is usually indicative of
a mild fungal skin condition. I had not heard of it before he got it, and it
can make their life expectancy less as they're more susceptible to other
problems, so it's a matter of maintaining his health with him now. I love
him, and I am so glad he's back to his handsome little self!
