My
pet's name is James. He's a gerbil. I bought him at a pet store in
Pennsylvania during early spring, so I can guess that he's almost a year old.
I own James and his counterpart Jessie, both named after Team Rocket from
Pokémon. One of my best friends has a crush on a guy named James, so before I
named my gerbils officially that's what I called him just to tease her. I
wanted a pair of names, so I assumed the name James wouldn't stick. It did
though, when I finally thought of the perfect pair of names. Now James' name
is an inside joke as well as a homage to the best pair of Pokémon villains ever.
James is a very curious gerbil. Whenever my hands are in the cage for any
reason, he's there sniffing and putting his paws on me looking for treats. He
is very energetic and bold compared to his counterpart, Jessie. If there's
something sitting on top of the mesh cage lid, James will forget he's a
gerbil and go into Tarzan mode trying to cling to the cage lid and swing from
it to see what's sitting on top. He's always the first on their exercise
wheel, and when Jessie wants a turn, he can just forget it. James will jump
in the wheel and push him out. All in all though, he's a sweet pet and I
couldn't imagine what I'd do without him.
