Sammy
is a bird that my dad bought years back. She is unlike any other
cockatoo for a variety of reasons. She's more quiet than most others of her
breed, and she doesn't come out of her cage that often. We believe she was
dropped as a baby, so she doesn't like getting on hands, but she adores being
petted. I got her from my dad about a year ago and have been working with her
bit by bit to get her more comfortable with coming out of her cage. She will
now come out of her cage to be petted and to recieve kisses. She doesn't
talk, but she does laugh and when she does, it sends the rest of us into
gales of laughter as well. She also loves play with her bell, as you can see!
When Sammy gets her shower (by squirt bottle on the mist setting) she will
sometimes feel it is not good enough and bathe herself in her water dish,
fluffing out her feathers as she does so. We sometimes bring her outside in a
cage, but she doesn't really like it, now and again we'll take her outside
but she's unsure about it so we don't have her out there long, wouldn't want
a scared birdie. :) Hopefully in time she'll get more used to it, so she gets
some fresh air an a change of scenery!
