I'd
like to introduce my pet, her name is Poe, she's about two years old, I'm
not sure what breed of bunny she is. I found her on Craigslist and jumped at
the chance of welcoming her to my home. But after we brought her home, we
found that she was very frightened of being petted. So, sadly, I think she
was neglected at her first home. We have doted on her and are trying to spoil
her in every way we can. We went out and bought her own 12' x 7' carpet so
she can run to her heart's delight. I bought her a wicker ball for $5.00, but
she would rather play with an empty paper towel roll. I talk to her every
chance I can and she has stopped grunting now when we pet her. She grunts
once in a while, but more often than not she doesn't.
What makes Poe special to me is that I was just diagnosed with Autism (I'm
43) and she is a great support to me. I talk to her through out the day and
she sits still and I seem to think she's actually listening to me. If she
seems nervous or tense, I'll take extra time to talk to her and give her a
treat to let her know that she is loved and wanted in our home and holds a
special place to us. I hope one day that she'll stop grunting and tensing up
when we pet her and that she'll actually come over to us for attention, but
we won't rush that. We love her just as she is.
