This
is Daisy, my crested gecko. She is so sweet and calm. She will sit on my
shoulder, content to stay with me as I walk around the house. She also loves
to be hand-fed crickets and doesn't mind me showering her with kisses
too-which I do a lot because her skin is so soft. Two Christmases ago, I
wanted to take her picture sitting next to a candy cane donut and wearing the
little jingle bell collar that I made for her, but once I set her down next
to the donut, I was surprised to see her go right over to it and
enthusiastically started licking it! Obviously Daisy also shares my taste for
sweet foods! But the best way to tell everyone of my love for my precious
Daisy is in this poem that I wrote to her ...
DAISY, SWEET DAISY
Daisy, you are a dewdrop trembling from the
pale shedding of Summer's sincerity, I think
I would forget how to smile without your
gecko grace highlighting my sorrowful days
into a new shiny sleeve, you are the innocence
I seek in the soft assortment of daylit leisures,
the early break of light from marbled Skies,
you are a sweet song-a gentle soul that rhymes
Grace to the Delight you bring to my heart.
Daisy, my sweet little girl gecko, I love you
more than my unworthiest pen can convey in
these here shivers of candlelight writings,
my heart overflows with the lusciously edible
rays that remember how you shaped yourself to
my maternal warmth, adorning my inner field
with your coquet spirit, my life you gilded
gold, melting me with your coffee-cream eyes
and gecko sincerity, kissing me as I kiss you.
Daisy sweet Daisy, I love you more than the
sultry smiles that Summer throws down to the
checkerboard shade, my emotions she rearranges
into a chrysalis twine and you are the glow
I navigate by, even when Summer fades to the
cool sleep of a frostbitten memory you will
still be the warmth I seek, bedewing my solitary
life with your simple innocence you came to me,
in your eyes you mirrored my soul's other half.
Daisy sweet Daisy, how I love you so, with every
last drop of magic sizzling in me I pray to the
deities that be for health to be your fortune
and a long life your treasure, I pray for you
to be with me for many more leisurely years,
teaching me how to live without pride-but with
enjoyment in the Truth of who I am, teaching me
the kind of Faith that only a gecko could know,
and love so purely given, Daisy my sweet Daisy.
