This
is my rat, Saoirse. Saoirse is pronounced SEER/sha and is Gaelic for
"freedom". This is a very fitting name for her as she has always roamed the
house like a dog. If I called her, she would come running from wherever she
was in the house. She has never been content in a cage. She would run after
me down the hall, follow me around the house, wrestle with my hand, and
attack the cat. Yes, she attacked the cat. She'd chase the cat around the
house. She has also tried chasing my husky.
A few weeks ago she developed an ear infection. The infection has been
cleared up, but has left her with an incurable head tilt. With this head
tilt, she can no longer roam the house like she used to due to her lack of
balance...but this does not slow her down! She will still run around like
crazy (in supervised areas so she cannot fall off of something and hurt
herself). She now lives in a one level cage that she cannot climb up the bars
and fall off. She is the baby sitter of a few little ones. She's two years
old but still acts like she's two months. She has been the best rat I've ever owned.
