This
is Lilac. She is a three year old rabbit and she lives at Karigon
Elementary School in Clifton Park, New York, USA. She was rescued from a
local animal shelter when she was nine months old. Her birthday is December 9th.
She is a classroom pet for a 5th grade class. She loves the kids and enjoys
hopping around the room and exploring the hallways. At times she escapes
and visits with other classes and wanders to the library. All the kids know
where she belongs and they help to escort her back to her home when she
gets out. She can be very sneaky watching for someone to come in and open
the door. When they enter she quickly sneaks past them and out into the
hall. She has even learned how to open a door that is just closed over. She
is very smart.
Some of her favorite foods are bananas, oatmeal squares, and raisins. She
enjoys the treat of apple tree branches when we can get them for her. She
knows when it is snack time and goes around begging for a treat like a
little puppy dog. She can eye a banana from across the room and reaches up
for a bite. When Mrs. A (one of the teachers in the room) comes in she hops
around her feet until she gives her a treat. She only does this with Mrs. A.
Her home is an old lab crate. A two level home was built of rough cut wood
for her. She loves to perch on top for a good view of the classroom. She
also has a little enclosure for when she wants to escape by herself.
On the weekends and holidays she visits with different families. She gets
along well with other animals. When you sit on the floor she likes to climb
into your lap and reach up to give bunnies kisses.
Thank you for reading about our class pet. She is extra special to us and
makes our classroom more like a home. The students are her family and she
loves them all very much.
