Maia
is a very special Guinea Pig. I adopted her from The Critter
Connection, a cavy rescue in Durham, Connecticut. Maia had arrived there
from a shelter in Maine. There, her previous owners dumped her because
they got a dog. Maia's stress level went up when the dog was brought home,
and this possibly caused her to get a URI (upper respiratory infection)
which is common in guinea pigs. I knew she looked sick when I got her, and
brought her to the vet right away. She got better on antibiotics. I also
changed her bedding to aspen, which helped. I ended up bringing her to the
vet once more.
Here, Maia is indulging in one of her favorites, fresh picked grass, which
she enjoys in season. In the other picture, she is snuggling with her
favorite moose, Henry. I figured coming from Maine, she might like a moose
buddy, and I was right! She gets a cup of veggies and fruits every night.
She lives with her cage mates, in a seventeen-square-foot cage, which they love.
Maia is in a permanent home now and is very happy!
