Chloe
is a female chinchilla who I purchased a little over one and a half
years ago. She is about three years old, but she's been through a few
owners, so I don't have any proof of her age. She currently lives in my
bedroom in Massachusetts.
Chloe is awesome. She's cute and weird. I got her by coincidence on my
23rd birthday while I was attending college. I really wanted to get an
animal as I've always had pets and I was missing having animals around.
Once I moved out of the dorms, I started looking into it. I had never seen
a chinchilla before in my life and to this day Chloe is the only chin I've
met in person. I knew what chinchillas were but didn't know much about
their care. I don't know what compelled me to decide to get a chin, but
the more research I did, the more I wanted her.
I even built Chloe her own cage and she loves to run around at top speed
and popcorn in it every night...very loudly! Chloe is like most
chinchillas. I try to explain to people who don't own chins that when she
plays and is active, it's basically like watching a squirrel! The one
exception is scritches - I can pretty much stop her in her tracks with
them. She tolerates being held and is actually pretty good (she even let
my friend's four-year-old hold her without fussing) with people. She will hop
in my hands and climb my arms if I put my arms in her cage for a moment,
but otherwise would rather use me as a bouncing board more than anything
else.
Her favorite thing to do in the world is chew ... on anything! She also
loves coming out of her cage to run around but utilizes her cage as a
running surface as well. She literally bounces off the walls and I've even
seen her climb the bars a few times! Chloe also really like running in her
wheel. She will come up to the cage door whenever I go in the room and
it's nice to be greeted by her when coming home from work every day.
