Hi.
I would like to introduce my crested gecko! Crested geckos were only
rediscovered in 1994 in New Caledonia, a island country west of Australia
and north of New Zealand. They were thought to be extinct until large
colonies were found on the island of pines and some satellite islands.
They are a nocturnal and arboreal gecko. They are now bred in captivity as
pets, which is how I got him.
I named him Mahuika after the Maori god of fire because of his fire morph
patterning. He turns a deep chocolate brown with yellow fire markings at
night. He enjoys blueberry and sweet potato baby food as well as the
occasional crickets. He also has the great attitude of "I can't see you so
you can't see me". He'll hide behind a leaf on the glass in the front of
his enclosure and go to sleep even though everyone can see him. He also
likes to sleep in the weirdest positions with legs stretched out and with
his head down. He is a fascinating pet!
