Hi!
I would like to honor our sugar glider, Mr. Bob! He is special because
he is such an amazing daddy to his five biological children and his one adopted
son. We adopted him and his "wife," Marley, when she had her first set of
twin girls in her pouch. They took a plane ride from Ohio to Connecticut
about four years ago when their original owner couldn't take care of them
anymore. After their first set of twins were born, Mr. Bob then became the
proud daddy to one boy and a few months later another set of twin girls.
During every pregnancy, he would bring Marley food back to their nest and
once the babies were born, he would stay with them so Marley could have
some alone time outside of the nest. About a year later we adopted a
single male glider from an abusive home. Mr. Bob took him under his "wing"
like the champ he is!
Mr. Bob is pretty shy around everyone except his "mom" and "dad" (me and
my boyfriend). He gives us goodnight kisses by pressing his nose up
against our lips and loves sleeping in our sweatshirt pockets! His
favorite food... is everything! He especially loves grapes and chicken;
for awhile we were worried he was overweight but his vet said he is just a
big glider! He loves his running wheel, not necessarily to run in either;
he eats his dinner in the wheel then watches his babies play while in the
wheel and it's also his personal private "bathing house"! He has the
cutest teddy bear face we've ever seen and even though he is a big boy, he
is also a big softy and would rather snuggle with his family than fight
over the last piece of fruit. Mr. Bob is such a family man; whenever his
"wife", Marley, leaves the nest without him seeing, he makes a specific
noise to for her. It sounds like someone clicking their tongue but very
very fast, it's so cute! When he was neutered, he had to be in a separate
cage for a few days. Every night when everyone else was playing in the
main cage, Mr. Bob would call back and forth to his family in the other cage.
When he's not in his wheel or being a family man, he loves collecting the
"barrel of monkeys" we hang around their cage every night. He carries them
back to their nest in his tail. Mr. Bob and the rest of the colony have brought us so much
joy over the years. We try very hard to educate people on the ownership of
sugar gliders as they are much harder to take care of than people think.
However, if you are willing to put in the effort, these little marsupials
will steal your heart!
