About Us
Plankton, the Pet of the Day
Name: Plankton
Age: Four years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Eastern Box turtle
Home: Texas, USA
We found Plankton and his sister Karen in our back yard one day! We were walking along the woods in our backyard and saw what looked like a moving rock or a bark chip but when we looked closer, we found out it was a small brown turtle about the size of a quarter. We had three water turtles already so we gladly took in the turtle. We named him Plankton. A few days later we found his sister Karen. We named them both after the Spongebob characters! They were so tiny we knew they would be vulnerable to many predators, even birds, so inside they came!

We keep Plankton and Karen together in a large tank and feed them meal worms, fruits, and vegetables. Plankton enjoys basking in the sun and eating. He is about the size of a small tangerine. Plankton has a light brown shell with colorful bright yellow face coloring. Box turtles are cool because they can pull their head all the way in, and legs, so they do then just look like an ornate little box, but they don't do that with us, as they know there's nothing to be afraid of here. We love turtles! And Plankton is a special guy!
