This
is Alpina, my sweet little chinchilla. Her species is from South
America, but she is a pet, and was born right here in Latvia. In the
wild they live in the mountains, so that is how she got her name. I
think she is very beautiful and her colouring is Black Velvet. She
feels even softer than velvet to pet! I love this picture, it looks like
she is saying her prayers, doesn't it? Really she was begging for a
treat, and of course I had to give it to her once I snapped the picture.
She' still a baby, just 3.5 months old but is already so sweet and very
friendly. She never bites, sometimes she will kind of nibble on my
finger especially if I have just been holding something yummy, but it
doesn't really hurt. She likes to run around the room during her play
time, and when I am not at home, she has toys in her cage to play with,
when she's not sleeping, that is. She is a very special little friend.
