This
is the picture I took of our recently departed lilac Maroos. It was this
pose she made in the pet store, through the cage bars, that made me buy her
on the spot. I said "hey there," and she popped out of her little wooden hut,
laid her ears back and just gave me that look.
Maroos hated chinchilla food, constantly tried to steal people food
especially crunch berries, and was the tamest chinchilla I have ever come
across.
I had to have her put down due to genetic conditions. It's my fault for
getting her at a pet store, granted, but she was just the sweetest thing on
the planet and I had to have her.
She was always different/odd and she did in fact run head first into things a
lot more than my boy chinchilla. She ended up having fatty liver disease, and
the vet told me it was purely genetic. She lived with and ate the same exact
food as my current chin and they are very well taken care of so it being a
genetic condition made sense. She lived for five months and never grew. She had
19% red blood cell count that was non-regenerating, and so in the end it was
just better to put her down.
I want everyone to know to never get an animal from a pet store, find a
rescue group, or a breeder if you must, but the animals in pet stores often
are sick, like poor Maroos, through no fault of her own. I was glad to at
least give her a good home for the time she was able to spend with us. And I
will never forget her.
