This
is my hamster, Molly. He's rather gender-confused because he was sold
to us as a female, but his name has stuck anyway. He lives at home while
I'm away at uni and is probably the thing I miss most during term-time -
sorry mum! He is wonderfully soft and fluffy, and his coat gets so long
that I have to trim it with scissors (I've often been tempted to shampoo it
but luckily have restrained myself).
Molly's favorite outfit is his personalized cape, made for him by a friend
of mine. I think he looks pretty fierce in it. I love photographing him but
he's so inquisitive that it's hard to get the perfect shot - he's always
moving! His sleeping pattern is pretty erratic because hamsters are
naturally nocturnal but Molly hates being left out, so tries to stay awake
when everyone in the house is too. Favorite foods include cheese and monkey
nuts, and he is such a hoarder; his cage has a long tunnel attached which
he ends up having to squeeze through as he stores all his nosh up there.
I'm not ashamed to still have a hamster at eighteen, because I love Molly to
bits, as do my mum and my friends. He's always there for a cuddle when I've
had a bad day and although he's my fifth hamster to date, I think he's my favorite.
