Ned
is about two years old, but we don't know for sure, he was a rescue. Ned is
a very special bunny. We already had three house rabbits when Ned came into our
lives rather unexpectedly. He was abandoned at the animal shelter and then
placed into a cage with a much larger rabbit who proceeded to tear off one ear
and the tip of the other. An acquaintance of ours adopted him because she
felt bad for him, but changed her mind after a week and called us. I
recognized him from his Petfinder profile and we were horrified by his story,
so of course we agreed to adopt him! It was a great decision because Ned is a
wonderful boy.
At first he was pretty shy, but he came out of his shell within a couple of
weeks and quickly wriggled his way into our hearts. Ned has a great big
personality for such a little guy. He loves any kind of attention and being
petted and cuddled. He even likes strangers. He likes to play outside and
run around inside. Most of all, he loves food! He will eat anything- even
things that are not good for bunnies! I've never known another bunny with his
appetite. Funny enough, the only thing he won't eat is some fancy organic
bunny treats I bought online. Ned's cage is right next to our kitchen table
and he makes a fine dining companion. He sits there with his face pressed
against the bars of the cage, waiting for someone to give him something from
their salad. If he feels he's being ignored, he bangs the top of his cage up
and down until he gets some attention! Another funny thing he does is sit
with his paws in his water bowl. I guess he wants to have clean "hands" in
case food arrives. The last funny thing about him that I'll mention is that
he's afraid of vacuum cleaners. We've had him for over a year now, and I
vacuum on a regular basis, but he still cowers in fear whenever I vacuum. Our
other rabbits and birds and even our rats do fine with the vacuum, but he
still gets scared. It's nothing that a post-vacuum snuggle won't cure though.
All in all, Ned is a joy to know and we feel lucky to have such a nice bunny.
