This
is my iguana, his name is Tom. He is a little over seven years of age, and is
still growing. He is 30 inches long now, and a male iguana can get to be six
feet long if they stay healthy, and don't lose a piece of tail, which can
happen if they are hurt or get grabbed wrong. Iguanas can regrow their tails,
but Tom has never been hurt, so has his whole tail. I love him and give him
plenty of leafy greens and other foods, fruit and treats so he will stay well.
He likes to come out of his habitat to wander around some every day, and likes
to stretch out his full length on the back of the couch, as you can see,
Handsome isn't he?
Tom isn't furry like a dog or cat, and some people think he is strange to have
as a pet, but I like him just the way he is. He loves basking in the sun, or
on his heated rock in the wintertime, and we think he is an interesting pet to
have. He is very quiet, doesn't bark at the mailman or need to be let out in
the early morning hours - and while you have to know a lot to take care of an
iguana, keep him warm, feed him right and keep his habitat well, he's the
perfect pet for me!
