Several
months after losing my Rainbow Lorikeet, Skittles, to a heart disease,
I went in to the bird store where I use to buy Skittles toys, and came upon a
cage that had three White Bellied Caiques that were three months old. They were
so cute! When the owner asked if I wanted to hold one, I said of course I
did! Out of the three babies, Pico gave me kisses as if to say "pick me, pick
me". I fell in love with the first little beak kiss.
I was told he wouldn't talk like my lorikeet would, but I think he's trying to
prove them wrong. At eight months old he learned to say his name and says it
excitably and proudly - "Pico, Pico, Pico". Of course he knows how to say
"no" - don't they all? Also, he has learned a couple of sentences - "I'll be
back" and "What are you doing?" He is a clown and loves to be the center of
attention. If I start laughing at him, he starts laughing. Before you know
it, he has my husband laughing with us. When someone asks me to describe him,
I tell them he's like a child that has had way too much chocolate. From the
time he gets up in the morning, he plays non-stop. That is, until bedtime
when he loves to cuddle. Pico will be three years old in March and has developed
into a very lovable and sweet bird!
